1. AATE INVITES STUDENTS TO THE BRAINSTORMING EVENT KELLARISTA KULTTUURIKESKUKSEKSI

The premises which were previously known as OUBS are located in Otaniemi, Jämeräntaival 1. The operations of OUBS were discontinued on 31 May 2011 and AYY’s new audiovisual media Aate began its operations on 1 June 2011.

A functioning cultural centre needs to be surrounded by enthusiastic people, and therefore Aate invites you to the brainstorming event “Kellarista kulttuurikeskukseksi: yhteisen Aatteen asialla”.

In the informal event we will consider how Aate could enrich AYY’s cultural life. Music, theatre, poems, films, photos, yoga, sculpture… it is up to YOU. So please come to Aate (Jämeräntaival 1 A, basement) at 7 pm on Monday, 3 Oct 2011! See also our Facebook event.

2. NOMINATE NEW HONORARY MEMBERS TO THE GUILD OF THE ROUND TOWER

The Guild of the Round Tower is an honorary and senior association operating within Aalto University. Annually 15-20 people are invited to the guild as a recognition for active involvement in the technology student community and the student community of Aalto University. Every autumn, the conclave of the Guild appoints new honorary members based on the nominations of the student communities of technology students and Aalto University.

This year’s nominations can be made until 10.11am on Monday, 10 Oct 2011. Nominations can be made by an individual person, guild or association, or by several people, guilds or associations. The nomination should include the name and the photo of the nominated person and the possible grounds for the nomination and the proposer(s). Nominations can be sent to the address ehdota-arwoisia@list.ayy.fi.

You can nominate persons who are nearing the end of their studies or who have recently graduated, and who have actively operated within the community of technology students and shown continuous enthusiasm and interest towards technology students’ culture and other student union activities and  promoted development in the student union or in the associations operating under the student union.

Further information on the guild and its honorary members is available at www.ptk.ayy.fi.

3. AYY’S ASSOCIATION GUIDE TO BE COMPLETED AT THE END OF THE YEAR

The Student Union’s organisational sector is currently working on the association guide directed to associations and communities operating within AYY. The purpose of the guide is to facilitate the application process of association grants, the establishment of operations and networking. The guide will at least cover the writing of the minutes, the Associations Act, the establishment of a new association, rule issues, premises issues, counselling services and archiving. We aim to publish the guide in late autumn both in electronic and printed versions.

Do you have ideas about issues that should be covered in the guide? Even surprising suggestions and ideas are greatly appreciated. Please send us feedback: jarjestoasiat@ayy.fi.

4. APPLY FOR THE POSITION OF ELECTION OFFICER IN AYY’S REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL ELECTIONS

AYY is looking for election officers to conduct the ballot elections of the Representative Council Elections on Wed, 2 Nov, 10am–4pm, on six polling stations (Arabia, Otaniemi, Töölö, Lahti, Mikkeli and Pori). The duties of the election committee include, among other things, the conduction of the elections and the vote count after the election process is completed.

We primarily take into consideration the applicants who have previously acted as election officers but other applicants also have an excellent chance to be selected. The committee members receive a lump sum of €100 (€150 to chairpersons).

Please apply no later than Fri, 7 Oct! See the application instructions: /vaalit/.

5. NYYTI’S SURVEY FOR NEW STUDENTS

Students’ Support Centre Nyyti has published a survey for new students on its website. Nyyti uses the survey to chart students’ experiences from the academic world and their adaptation to it. We hope that you will pass the message forward to new students, in particular. With this survey, Nyyti collects important information about how the new students find their own place in the student life.

The survey is available at https://digiumenterprise.com/answer/?sid=697621&chk=X4HY7UW4
