1. AYY’S OPERATING GRANTS 2012

The application period for AYY’s operating grants and the making of association notice is ongoing. The application period is 1 March-1 April, so you can still apply for the grants during the next week. All AYY’s associations accepted in the first register may apply for the operating grant. Associations in the second register only fill out the association notice, which is the same form with the exception of the application for the operating grant.

The application form is available at https://lomake.ayy.fi/yhdistykset/ayyn-toiminta-avustushakemus/. Further information on the application is available by the Student Union’s organisational sector by email at jarjestoasiat@ayy.fi. You can also find answers at /yhdistyksille/apurahat-yhdistyksille/, which has concise information on the operating grant and the scoring model used for the allocation of the grants.

2. NON-FINNISH SPEAKING STUDENTS SENT AN OPEN LETTER TO AALTO’S STUDENT ORGANISATIONS

Aalto University’s non-Finnish speaking students sent an open letter to Aalto University’s student organisations. The letter can be read at  /blog/2012/03/23/open-letter-from-aalto-students-to-student-organizations/.

3. PARTICIPATE IN AYY’S EQUALITY SURVEY

Woman? Man? Black? White? Old? Young? – Does it matter? During the spring of 2012, AYY will draft a gender equality and equality plan. You can influence the content of the plan by responding to the survey at http://bit.ly/ayy-yhdenvertaisuus-jarjestot! The survey has a separate section where you can tell about your experiences of equality in associations and give suggestions for improvement to AYY. The matter is prepared at AYY’s Central Office by Kati Penttinen, AYY’s Board Member in charge of social affairs, and Janne Peltola, Specialist in Academic Affairs (firstname.surname@ayy.fi).

4. SUBMIT YOUR EVENTS FOR AYY’S ACADEMIC YEAR CALENDAR 2012–2013

Associations and actors within AYY have the opportunity to submit important event dates for the student union’s academic year calendar. Events can be submitted through the google docs file linked below until Sunday, 27 May 2012. Please add your events under the correct month in chronological order. Please enter the text you want in the calendar ”Event name/Text” field (yellow background). Pleaase note that one line can hold up the maximum of 25 characters of text, including spaces. When writing the text, please consider how many lines from  your own calendar you wish to be ”wasted”. The calendar is trilingual so please take this into account when planning the text.

If there are several events marked on the same date, the event that concerns most of the students will end up in the calendar. The file is editable until the provided deadline 27 May 2012, until which you can make changes to your events. Please fill out the columns carefully, and check and double check that the information is correct. Please also remember to include information on who is organising the event. Questions and comments are received by AYY’s Communications Officer

Henna Lahti (henna.lahti@ayy.fi or 050 5209440).

5. HULLU JUSSI IS APPROACHING! WORK AT CHECKPOINTS!

May Day is approaching as well as the traditional Hullu Jussi event. In the event, teams of 4-10 people tour Otaniemi completing various checkpoints and competing for the title of “the craziest teekkari group”. The question is: would your association like to arrange a checkpoint in the event?

What, where, when?

  • Time: 29 Apr 2012, approx. 10pm-1am, after the beginning of the night pranks
  • Location: Around Otaniemi
  • Concept: Groups of friends tour checkpoints in Otaniemi and compete for the title of “the craziest teekkari group”. The winner will be published in the declaration of May Day celebrations.

If you are interested and would like to organise a checkpoint in Otaniemi and have a great time, please sign up at matias.korkka@ayy.fi no later than 22 Apr. Please include the subject “Hullu Jussi Rastinpitäjä 2012” and mention your association name, details of the contact person, preferred location of the checkpoint and the content of the checkpoint that you have planned. If your association does not have a club room and you would like to organise the checkpoint indoors, we can arrange premises for you. As a bonus, the association which organises the best checkpoint wins one free use of Otaranta rooftop sauna in the summer or next autumn! Further information is available at matias.korkka@ayy.fi. Further information will be provided for participants at a later date.
