At the end of every booking phase, an excel sheet is added to AYY’s website, which shows the made reservations and overlapping bookings can be avoided in advance.

2. AYY DECIDED ON THE OPERATIONAL GRANTS FOR THE YEAR 2013

The application period for AYY’s operational grants and increased grants took place during March and ended on 1 April 2013. AYY’s association sector went through the applications and based on the presentations of the sector, the Board made decisions on the grants at its meeting 19/2013 (Wednesday, 24 April 2013). The entire decisions are now available on AYY.fi at  /toiminta-avustukset-2013/. Associations that have applied for the grant have also been individually informed about the results and payment orders have been forwarded on Wednesday, 8 May. Therefore, the grant should appear on the association accounts soon.

At its meeting on Friday, 3 May, AYY Board decided that a separate application period for the operational grant will not be opened for associations which applied too late. Thus, the associations may apply for AYY’s operational grants next time in March 2014.

Any inquiries and additional questions can be addressed to the association sector at jarjestosektori@ayy.fi.

3. SUBMIT YOUR ASSOCIATION EVENTS FOR AYY’S POCKET CALENDAR NOW

Associations and actors within AYY have the opportunity to submit important event dates for the student union’s academic year calendar. Events can be submitted through the Google Docs file linked below until Sunday, 26 May 2013. Please add your events under the correct month in chronological order. Please enter the text you want in the calendar ”Event name/Text” field (yellow background). Please note that one line can hold up the maximum of 25 characters of text, including spaces. When writing the text, please consider how many lines from  your own calendar you wish to be ”wasted”. The calendar is trilingual so please take this into account when planning the text.

If there are several events marked on the same date, the event that concerns most of the students will end up in the calendar. The file is editable until the provided deadline 26 May 2013, until which you can make changes to your events. Please fill out the columns carefully, and check and double check that the information is correct. Please also remember to include information on who is organising the event.

Submit your event at: http://tinyurl.com/ayycalendar2013. Questions and comments to AYY’s Communications Officer Henna Lahti (henna.lahti@ayy.fi or 050 5209440).

4. KYL TO PUBLISH A GROUNDBREAKING POEM ALBUM IN JUNE

In June, Helsinki Academic Male Choir (KYL) will publish a record consisting of male choir compositions based on poems of Larin-Kyösti. The album is groundbreaking in the Finnish choral scene, as its focus is solely on one poet’s lyrics and the expedition to the diverse stories of human life which they present.

The album release concert will be held at Aalto University School of Economics Hall (Runeberginkatu 14-16, Helsinki) on Wednesday, 5 June 2013, 7pm. Tickets (€15/10) can be purchased from Lippupalvelu (http://www.lippupalvelu.fi/artist/kyl-lippuja/873378), directly from the choir members or at the entrance before the event starts. As usual, the choir is conducted by Matti Apajalahti.

5. POPULAR PARTNER SALSA COURSE IS HERE AGAIN!

Try out the energetic dance which is inspired by Afro-Cuban dance and music traditions, as well as jazz and show dance. In the beginner’s course, we practise the most common salsa moves and techniques. The course includes five sessions, starting on Fri, 17 May 2013, 6pm-7.30pm. The next sessions will be organised on Mon 20 May, Fri 24 May, Mon 27 May and Fri 31 May, always at the same time. The course will be held in the multipurpose facilities at Jämeräntaival 3A in Otaniemi. The course price is €30 (member / non-member).

Further information on the course in Finnish is available at /parisalsan-tiiviskurssi/.
