Aalto University, the Student Union and Aalto University Properties encourage everyone to participate again in WWF Earth Hour on Saturday, 19 March 2015, at 8:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour is a worldwide climate event organised by the World Wildlife Foundation where individuals and communities turn off their non-essential lights for one hour. Through this symbolic gesture, everyone can express their concerns over the state of the environment and the climate crisis.
This year, Aalto University Properties will switch off all indoor lights for one hour in four properties on the Otaniemi campus, Lämpömiehenkuja 2, Otaniementie 17, Otaniementie 19 and Konemiehentie 2. The Student Union will take part in the campaign by encouraging students to turn off the lights in their dormitories and rental flats.
The WWF Earth Hour campaign serves to increase our awareness of what we can do to save energy. The objective is to significantly reduce the consumption of electricity in the next few years for financial and ecological reasons. Small streams make large rivers – the deeds of every individual are important. According to the energy efficiency plan between Aalto University Properties and Aalto, we will also continue providing property managers and superintendents with energy efficiency training in 2016.
More information about the event is available at http://earthhour.fi and on Twitter at #earthhoursuomi.
