2. LIIKU NIIN VOIT

Liiku niin voit is a service offered by UniSport for students who feel themselves physically inactive. It is aimed at students who either need a little kick for starting to exercise or for those who need help in the beginning. The service is provided in cooperation with the Finnish Student Health Service (YTHS). The webpage of the service is available only in Finnish at the moment, but if you are interested in the service you can contact directly Matti Villgren from UniSport (matti.villgren@helsinki.fi).

3. CITY OF HELSINKI OFFERS FREE ICE-SKATING SLOTS FOR THE CITIZENS

City of Helsinki organizes free of charge skating hours in Helsinki’s indoor ice rinks for the citizens. There are different slots available for those who want to skate with or without the hockey sticks. There is a possibility to sharpen the skates at Malmi and Paloheinä indoor ice rinks. 4. CITY OF ESPOO OFFERS FREE ICE-SKTING SLOTS FOR THE CITIZENS

City of Espoo organizing free of charge skating hours in the following indoor ice rinks: Espoonlahti, Matinkylä and Laaksolahti, and in addition at Barona Areena and Reebok Areena. Check out the timetable here (in Finnish).

5. FC NAME IS LOOKING FOR NEW FEMALE FOOTBALL PLAYERS FOR THEIR TEAM

Do you want to play football, but you do not have anyone to play it with? Join FC NAMU. FC NAMU is a football team consisting of students from Helsinki University and Sibelius Academy, but FC NAMU welcomes everyone regardless of skills and the home university. All FC NAMUs share good spirit, enthusiasm and will to learn new things.

The team is training at Kumpula’s sports center on Wednedays at 8-9pm. All you need with you is indoor shoes. The team is participating futsal series in the winter. FC NAMU is playing outdoors during the summer when possible. Indoor training sessions at Kumpula costs 30-40€/per season for students and 50-70€/per season for others. Come and try out! 6. MEETING FOR AALTO UNIVERSITY’S TOP-ATHLETES OR ATHLETES STRIVING TO THE TOP ON THURSDAY 27TH OF SEPTEMBER

Are you a top-athlete or an athlete striving to the top and studying at the Aalto University? Come and meet other top-athletes or future top-athletes who are studying at Aalto and exchange the ideas and experiences of what it is to combine student life and top-level sports. There you also have an opportunity to learn more about Metropolitan Sports Academy URHEA. The program of the evening is very informal and relaxed. The evening is held on Thursday 27th of September at 2-4pm at Jämeräntaival 3 A. The exact location is “takkakabinetti”. The little snacks will be served during the event. 7. BATTLE FOR THE MASTERY OF OTANIEMI ON 4TH OF OCTOBER

Aalto-Liike will organise a battle for the mastery of Otaniemi on 4 Oct 2012. At the forefront of Otaniemi, you will fight in a laser battle, the concept familiar from Megazone. The tournament consists of 16 teams with ten players per team. The game mode is open for now, but most likely we will play Capture the Flag game with some modifications. The weapons use infrared laser in order to function, so you do not have to worry about protection. We have 40 weapons of which 20 are constantly in use. The event lasts for about 8 hours, and a single fight lasts about half an hour. Each fight is a qualification game.

The participation fee is €100/team or €10 per participant. Payment instructions will follow later with the game programme and other useful stuff. 8. AALTO-KYMPPI ON 22ND OF SEPTEMBER

Aalto-kymppi, the kick-off event of the Aalto University academic year in terms of sports, will be organized on 22 September 2012. The event will start at the Otahalli sports hall. The event, starting at 3.00 p.m, is intended for anyone who wishes to take part in the 10-kilometre event in any way they seem fit: walking, jogging, running, forwards, backwards, or any other way. If you wish, you may also stop to admire the incredibly beautiful scenery along the route.

The course runs along the Espoo Waterfront Walkway from Keilaniemi to Otsolahti, and under Kehä I back to the Walkway in Otaniemi. The race finishes in the Otaniemi sports field. Before the race, there will be a joint warm up session for all participants, and a prize will be awarded to the Aalto Athlete of the Year.

All participants from Aalto are granted a free technical sports shirt with Aalto and Rantamaraton logos. Aalto University will pay the Aalto-kymppi participation fee for all its students, staff and alumni.

Register for Aalto-kymppi here. Last day for registration is 14th of September with timekeeping. If you wish to participate without timekeeping, you can register even in the morning of the event. When you register, please indicate the name of your school/department or team. Remember also to fill in your student number.

 

 

SELL Student Games were held in Otaniemi last weekend

The 28. SELL Student Games were held last weekend in Espoo, Otaniemi. Otaniemi was the center of action again after four years – the last time the Games were organized in Finland was in 2008.

Nearly 1600 university athletes and around 160 volunteers participated in the event. Most teams arrived on Thursday 17.5 and the actual competitions started on Friday lasting till Sunday, 20.5.

The results level in SELL Games has traditionally been high and this year was no exception. Some high-ranked athletes took part in for example athletics, chess and judo and gave the sport enthusiasts something to watch and wonder. Men’s basketball final was definitely the highlight of the weekend, with the gold going to Lithuania, Vytautas Magnus University. In floorball, Aalto University’s men’s team came on top after a tough match against Riga Technical University. Aalto women had to settle for silver as Tartu University’s women took the lead position. All in all, Sunday was an exciting day due to the team sport finals and the spirit was high.

The new sports of 2012 – disc golf and fencing – were taken in with much excitement and gathered together an impressive bunch of talented athletes showing great performances, especially in fencing. In total, competitions were held in 14 different sports: athletics, badminton, basketball, chess, disc golf, fencing, floorball, football, judo, orienteering, swimming, tennis, ultimate and volleyball.

In accordance with the green theme of the Games, an environmental seminar on sustainable events was held with success during the Games on Friday, 18.5, in the Competition center Dipoli. In addition, this year’s SELL Games undoubtedly presented one of the showiest and most entertaining opening ceremony in SELL history.

The SELL Games organization wants to warmly thank all partners and supporters and in particular, all the volunteers – without your work effort the Games would have been impossible to do.

SELL Student Games in Otaniemi during this weekend

The traditional SELL Student Games will be one of the largest and most international student sports events in Finland in 2012. The games will be organized in Espoo, Otaniemi, on 17-20th May 2012 and they are hosted by Aalto University Sports Club and Aalto University Student Union. Sustainability is a major theme in the games in 2012 and it will be considered in all important logistic actions of the event.

SELL Games are a multi-sport student sports event open to all university and polytechnic students in the world. The games are hosted in alternate years by SELL countries (Suomi, Eesti, Latvija, Lietuva). The games include 14 different sports. Team sports include basketball, volleyball, football, floorball and ultimate. Individual sports are athletics, judo, fencing, frisbeegolf, tennis, chess, badminton, orienteering, swimming.

Official opening ceremony will be hold in Ratiopharm Arena, Espoo, on Friday 18 May at 7p.m.

All the sportsevents are open for public and free of charge. Welcome!

Unisport supports the participation of Aalto University students in SELL Games! Ensure your place and register in time!

SELL Student Games is the biggest and most international student sporting event this year! The Games will be arranged in Espoo, Otaniemi, 17-20 May. The relaxing atmosphere and team spirit of the Games is definitely something unique! This is something you don’t want to miss!

SPORTS: Basketball, volleyball, football (7 vs 7), floorball, ultimate (5 vs 5), disc golf, judo, fencing, tennis, chess, badminton, orienteering, swimming and athletics.

REGISTRATION: By 25 April through an online form. The team leader of Aalto University is Heidi Heiskanen.

Important! Please report your name, sport, date of birth and possible records/your level on the online form. Please also submit your photo (for the event pass).

ENTRY FEE: Unisport supports the participation of the students of Aalto University! The fee is only 45€/person/3 days if the registration is made before 25 April 2012 (30€/person/2 days, 15€/person/1 day). Final registration deadline 11.5 – higher fee.

Entry fee includes:

Finnish Student Championships coming in badminton, orienteering and tennis!

University of Helsinki Badminton Club will organise Finnish Student Championships in Helsinki on 8-9 Oct 2011.

The tournament is open to all higher education students and you can participate in the open professional series and the amateur series. In the professional series, the Finnish Championships will be settled. In the amateur series, all badminton enthusiasts are welcome with the exception of professional players with rating V/A/B.

In both series, the players compete in five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. You can also register for doubles by yourself and the organisers will try to find a pair for you.

The registration fee is €15 per single players or a pair in doubles game.

All matches should be played on Saturday. If there are many participants, the finals in the professional series will continue on Sunday. In addition to the games, a sauna night will be arranged on Saturday.

Finnish Student Championships in orienteering in Lappeenranta on 13-14 Oct 2011

Participation right

All university or polytechnic students who have paid the membership fee of the student union regardless of their age or skill level are entitled to participate in the Finnish Student Championships. The championships are not organised under the Orienteering Federation.

According to OLL, students who graduated in the previous year can also participate in the Finnish Student Championships and therefore the championships are also open to those who graduated in 2010.

Categories and fees

Thursday, 13 Oct 2011: Official personal middle distance championships. Series: H21A (men general), D21A (women general) and the amateur series.

Friday, 14 Oct 2011: Couples sprint. Two-person teams, both complete two sprint distances. NB! The couple does not have to study at the same university!

Entry fee for personal contests: professional series 10 €/contestant, amateur series 4 €/contestant with advance registration, 6 €/contestant at the spot.

Entry fee for the couples sprint: 8 €/couple.

When you register, please mention the contestant’s name, series, student/student union or polytechnic/university and Emit number. When signing up for the couples sprint, please include the previously-mentioned information for both participants.

Please write your name and the university or the student union that you represent in the message field, and if you participate in the couples sprint, please include your partner’s name and school. Either one of the couple should pay the entire entry fee for the couples sprint.

Punching system

EMIT in all series. The card rental is €4/2 days and the fee is paid to the information desk when collecting the card. We charge 70 euro for a lost card.

Guidance

There are signs to the first day competition centre from VT6. There are signs starting approx. 10 km from Lappeenranta to the west.The second day’s competition can be found by following the signs to the university. The competition will be arranged in the vicinity of the university.

First start

Thu, 3pm, Fri, 12noon. There is less than one kilometre from the competition centre to the start.

Competition centre

Dressing and washing in off-road conditions. Parking in the immediate vicinity of the competition centre. Transport is organised from the university campus to the competition centre on Thursday, additional information will be available closer to the competition. Food is sold in the competition centre but the student-priced meals are provided in the restaurants on university campus.

Additional information

There has not been competitive orienteering in the terrain of the personal competition. The map was updated in the summer of 2011.

On Thursday, the top three in each series will be rewarded with product prizes. The winners in the professional series also win the official Finnish Student Championships medals. In addition, the winners in the professional series can have the right to represent students in the European Championships if they will be organised in 2012. The best teams on Friday will receive excellent product prizes.

On Thursday night, the traditional tournament party is arranged for everyone. The location is yet unknown.

Finnish Student Championships in Tennis arrive in Helsinki!

Teekkaritennis and KY-tennis invite you to battle in students tennis championships in Meilahti Sports Centre on 15-16 October 2011! The tournament has a relaxed student atmosphere where both fanatic tennis players and students who have just started to play can gather together. All higher education students (universities, polytechnics) can participate in the tournament.

The tournament series include: Men’s professional series 2p, Women’s professional series 2p, Men’s amateur series 2p, Women’s amateur series 2p, Professional series 4p, Amateur series 4p. Amateur series are intended for students who do not have the handicap of Tennis Association or who are in category D. The entry fee is 20e/series.

Winners receive product prizes and the Student Finnish Championships medals in the professional series. The top four players in the singles in the professional series have the right to participate in the Students European Championships in the summer of 2012. On Saturday, you also have a chance to catch up with old friends and find new tennis friends!
