The Central Election Committee confirmed the results of AYY’s third Representative Council elections

The Central Election Committee confirmed the results of AYY’s third Representative Council elections at its meeting on 8 Nov 2013. The confirmed election results are available at ayy.fi/vaalit/tulokset/.

No errors were found in the recount, but the candidates who received zero (0) votes were removed from the composition of the actual and deputy members of the Representative Council and are separately listed at the end of the confirmed election results. Each of these candidates who did not receive votes were from different electoral coalitions and therefore their removal from the result list does not otherwise change the composition of the Representative Council or the order between the candidates.

AYY: Piia Kuosmanen is a candidate for the position of SYL’s president 2014

Aalto University Student Union (AYY) nominates Bachelor of Science Piia Kuosmanen for the position of President of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL).

Piia is a 29–year-old student of information networks. In her current position as the chairperson of AYY Board, she has led the daily operations of the Student Union. Previously, Piia has been active in her guild, as a student representative in administration and as the 1st Vice Chairperson in AYY’s Representative Council. She also had a key role in the introduction of POP – For Better Learning – project at Aalto.

“Throughout the year, I have worked with Piia with major projects, which improve Aalto University and the Student Union. Piia’s ability to get people to do their best for common goals should be harnessed to benefit all students in Finland at SYL”, encourages Martin Aalto, Chairperson of AYY’s Representative Council.

In the current economic situation, the student movement must act as a strong advocate for education, also for the best of the students of tomorrow. Next year, we have to continue to get prepared for the next parliamentary elections and influence the policies of political parties, so that the students’ voice is heard in the streets and cabinets. In difficult times, we need clear voices.

“There is even a greater need for a coherent student movement next year. SYL at best is an active builder of the future and social debater. I promise to do everything I can to get milk and honey flowing in the kingdom”, says Kuosmanen.

SYL will elect the board for the year of 2014 in its union meeting in Korpilampi on 29-30 November. SYL represents the Finnish university students at the national level and takes a position on education policy, social policy and international affairs.
