The housing carnival is organised at Alvari Aukio Square at 12noon-4pm on Friday, 20 Mar. The purpose of the event is to build a student housing village in four hours. The event spreads information about the importance of student housing construction grants before the elections. The message is particularly current now as there have been suggestions to decrease the grants. At worst, this may be realised in the students’ rents as increases of even EUR 50-100 when constructing new housing.

In the housing carnival, associations compete to build student housing. The jury, which consists of the parliamentary election candidates, among others, will evaluate the buildings. The winning team is rewarded with one free reservation for Rantasauna and the hot tub. The building style is completely up to you, you can make an apartment from tarps, tent fabric, leca blocks or red bricks. The most important aspects are style and attitude. AYY has provided construction equipment which you can use. You can also use your own equipment and the first 10 construction groups receive compensation for expenses up to EUR 100 per association.
