Felix Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, solo violin by Silja Fontana
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73

Finland’s oldest academic symphony orchestra, the Polytech Orchestra, invites you to celebrate its 90th anniversary in the form of a jubilee concert at the Tapiola Hall of the Espoo Cultural Centre, Kulttuuriaukio 2, on Saturday 14th April at 17.00.

The concert begins with the sparkling tone poem Pohjola’s Daughter by Jean Sibelius, which introduces the orchestra at its largest. Violin Concerto by Mendelssohn will culminate the first half of the concert, with Silja Fontana as virtuoso soloist. The Symphony No. 2 by Brahms offers some interpretative challenges for the orchestra, as the atmospheres vary from cheery and pastoral to unbearable melancholy and yet to triumph.

The concert is conducted by Petri Komulainen.

Tickets 13 / 7 euro are available from the players as well as from the AYY’s Otaniemi service point, from the orchestra web page www.polyteknikkojenorkesteri.fi and from the door prior to the concert.

Welcome!
