Darkroom course

7.3.2013 17:00—21:00 14.3.2013

Teekkarikamerat will organize a foundational course to darkroom processing. On the course one will learn how to develop black-and-white film and to print pictures with the equipment in Teekkarikamerat photographic laboratory; the course will also provide the ability to work individually in the photo lab.

On the first day of the course the topic will be black-and-white film processing: each one will develop their own film. On the second day (Fri 8th, Wed 13th, Thu 14th at 17.00) each will print a picture from their newly-developed roll. You should reserve at least three hours for the activities on the both days, preferably more on the printing day.

You will need to bring a black-and-white film with photographs on it. The film must be processable in ordinary black-and-white chemistry, for example Kodak Tmax and Tri-X or Ilford HP5+ and FP4+ are good choices for a film. There are black-and-white films on the market that are meant to be processed in colour (C-41) chemistry, for example Kodak BW400CN and Ilford XP2 Super, they will not do for our purposes. The film can be either 35 mm film or roll film (also known as 135 film and 120 film, respectively) — the size does not matter as the process itself is the same.

The course enrolment happens through `Osta’ page in Intra (http://intra.teekkarikamerat.fi), by buying the course product. The price of the course, 5 euros, will be debited from your account balance; you can fill your account with real money by making a bank transfer in accordance to the instructions in intra. Should you not yet be our member, the course fee is 15 EUR and includes an option to apply for membership. The course fee covers all material costs, excluding the film which you will have to provide yourself. On the account of limited space in the photo lab, there is space for ten people on the course which will be further divided into equally sized smaller groups on the printing days. More printing opportunities can be organized if the participants cannot be divided equally to the announced dates. The course will be given in Finnish, but if there are any English-speaking attendees, tuition will be given also in English.

Should you have anything to ask, post a message on Facebook or send an email to the board (kamerat-hal@list.ayy.fi). Questions regarding obtaining film or camera or film photography in general are best directed to the club’s IRC channel (#teekkarikamerat at IRCNet).

Welcome to the course!
