2. Legendary Gravitation party at The Circus

The afterparty of the Shrovetide party, the traditional Gravitation party will be arranged at The Circus on Tuesday, 8 March! The performers include Goon and Jenni Vartiainen so this will be the best shrovetide party in the whole country. The nightclub also offers student-friendly prices throughout the night. The doors will open at 9pm and you can party until 4am!

You can buy tickets in advance either from Tiketti or AYY’s Otaniemi service point. In addition, tickets are sold at Alvari lobby, the School of Economics and Porthania, Shrovetide party and at the entrance of The Circus. Tickets cost 13€ in advance, 14€ at Tiketti and 15€ at the entrance. The overall badge costs 2€. The more specific programme and other information is available at www.gravitaatio.fi. 3. Brainstorm about AYY’s television channel! Respond to the survey and win cinema tickets

AYY is charting the awareness about the OUBS channel and the requirements and needs targeted at it. The purpose is to brainstorm new and creative ideas and achieve a joint television channel for everyone. By responding to the survey available through the link below, you have the opportunity to inflluence the future of AYY’s television channel, the OUBS! It takes approximately ten minutes to respond to the survey. Please feel free to spread the survey to AYY’s organisations and associations. If you wish to do so, you may participate in the raffle where you can win Finnkino’s cinema ticket package by submitting your contact information at the end of the survey. Please respond to the survey by 14 March.

4. Cliché Sitsit of AYY’s international section on 19 March

Are you fed up with the winter? Is it fun to mock other nationalities? You probably answered YES to one of the questions, so the international section is organising Cliché Sitsit for you and your friends! Come to Smökki on 19 March and join the party in Finnish, English or even Hebrew, as long as you dress appropriately (according to clichés). The night includes lots of fun activities, vicarious embarassment, escapism, traumatised exchange students and great surprises!

The event will begin at 6.30pm and the actual sitsit begins at 7pm. The afterparty will be organised in OK20. The night costs 15e (alcohol-free 13e). Please sign up at http://sik.ayy.fi/fi/signup/122 (in Finnish) 7.-17.3. and confirm your attendance on time!

5. Join the BEST summer courses

The summer courses of BEST are here! The list includes 56 different options to see Europe through new eyes. In this season, Aalto University has acknowledged that BEST courses are useful for students and have decided to pay the participation fees for all Aalto students who sign up for the courses! 6. Discussion about the development of Aalto teaching at Design Factory

Do you want to influence what kind of teaching is provided for you? Come to Design Factory to discuss with the decision-makers in Aalto University teaching!

Aalto Design Factory’s ADF teacher forum convenes once a month and includes a group of teachers interested in the development of teaching. They want to hear your experiences as a student: what kind of teaching is provided at Aalto? The teacher forum convenes for the next time at 9am on 15 March 2011 in Backstage room of Design Factory (Betonimiehenkuja 5, Otaniemi). The three-hour meeting includes breakfast and lunch. In addition, each student will receive a cinema ticket for the participation. Ten fastest students can join the meeting, please sign up by 9 March 2011 at maria.clavert@aalto.fi. Welcome!

7. Basic course of a security officer

Do you want to be employed during the summer and weekends in the growing security field or are you just interested in being a security officer? AYY provides an opportunity to complete a basic course of a security officer including 32 hours at an inexpensive price. After completing the course, you can apply for the security officer card which entitles you to work as a security officer throughout the country.

The theory part of the course will be arranged from Monday, 4 April to 7 April, at 4.15pm-9.30pm, on Otaranta club premises. The practical part takes place at AYY’s tatami hall on Saturday, 9 April, 9am-4pm. The course costs only 35 euro which is only one fifth of what you would normally pay for this course. The course is organised by Turvakerroin Oy. First 40 people to sign up can participate in the course. 8. Floorball tournament at Smökki on Thursday, 24 March

Smökki’s floorball tournament will be arranged for the first time on Thursday, 24 March. First 16 teams to sign up can participate in the tournament, the team can include 3-5 players.

You can sign up for the tournament starting from 12noon on 15 March at http://kik.ayy.fi/smokkisaba. The tournament is open to all AYY members, whether you are a player or a part of the spectators! After the game, you can continue the night in a sauna.

9. Are you interested in volunteer work abroad?

Volunteer work abroad will give you challenges and unique experiences. It gives you self-confidence and courage and it you may figure out completely new opportunities for the future. Maailmanvaihto (ICYE Finland) sends young adults for voluntary work on all continents. Next August, there are available positions in Bolivia, Ghana, India, Nepal and Uganda, for example. You can volunteer for six months or for one year. Please apply as soon as possible, no later than 15 April.

Volunteers mainly work with children in orphanages, schools, the centres for the children living on the street or nurseries. In most countries, you may work in the day care centres for the disbaled or the elderly. Further information and the application are available at www.maailmanvaihto.fi.

10. Come and collect prejudice from people and get rid of your own

Tapiola section of Red Cross will organise Get Rid of the Prejudice event during the week against racism on Saturday, 26 March 2011, 1pm-4pm. We will bring a red trash can in front of Stockmann where people can throw away their prejudices written on paper. We need volunteers to collect prejudices and help with the arrangements. You can also help for a shorter period of time.
