AYY ANNOUNCES

1. Welcome to celebrate the JTM 5 rental facilities’ opening with an afterwork on Wednesday 5 Jun

Gorsu and the Village Living Room, both part of the rental facilities at JMT 5, have recently finished their renovations. The Campus Section wishes everyone welcome to celebrate the facilities’ opening by way of an afterwork on Wednesday 5 Jun from 5 pm. The evening’s programme will feature a barbeque, sauna and communal hanging out, and Campus Section members will also happily answer any questions regarding the facilities. The event is free of charge and open to all. More info on the event will follow, so stay tuned!

2. Reservation calendar for AYY’s rental facilities now open until 5 Jan 2020

Bookings for AYY’s rental facilities can now be made until 5 Jan 2020. Bookings are made via AYY’s TILA system (tila.ayy.fi) by using your personal Aalto user details. If you do not have Aalto user details and want to reserve a facility for yourself, you can send us a reservation request using this form. Received reservation request forms will be confirmed with a separate email message.

A coded lock is in use at the Atlantinkatu and Heinävaara rental facilities for which the booker will receive a single-use key code from the TILA system. The keys to other facilities must be picked up from AYY’s office in Otaniemi on the day of the reservation during our opening hours. The keys for weekend reservations are always picked up on Friday. Our office is normally open at 12 noon–4 pm on weekdays.  However, remember to always check the possible exceptions to the opening hours on our contact information website!

Learn more about the facilities and the booking instructions: Rentable facilities

3. Resident announcement: Laundry rooms are booked in Domo from 1 Jun 2019 onwards

There is a laundry room in most AYY properties that the residents can use. From the beginning of June 2019, the laundry rooms are booked in the Domo service: https://domo.ayy.fi/en.

Why is the booking service transferred to Domo? Domo is easier to maintain and offers AYY a better chance than before to communicate to residents about possible exceptions to the use of laundry room equipment. For example, we can flag it in Domo’s reservation calendar when a piece of equipment is being serviced and cannot be booked. Domo will also notify the booker in case their reservation needs to be cancelled due to a breakdown. The change also enables us to offer the booking service in three languages, as Domo can be viewed in either Finnish, Swedish or English.

Read more about making a reservation in Domo: /en/blog/2019/05/20/laundry-room-reservations-will-be-made-on-domo-starting-1st-june-2019/.

The kick-off is held on 22 May at Avain Sauna (Otaranta 8E, top floor) at 6.00–8.00 pm.  By attending the kick-off, you and your group will be best equipped to prepare for the autumn’s election and for reaching both candidates and voters! 2. Submit your event for the calendar for the academic year 2019–2020

Associations and operators within AYY have the opportunity to submit their important dates for the Design Calendar produced collectively by AYY and TOKYO. Events can be added to the table linked below until Sunday 26 May 2019. Add your events under the correct month in chronological order. Write the text you want in the calendar in the column “Event name/Text.” Note that there is room for a maximum of 25 characters, including spaces, on one line. When writing, think about how many lines of your own calendar you want to be “wasted.” The calendar will be trilingual, so take this into account too when planning your text.

The table can be edited until the given deadline of 26 May 2019, and you can make changes to your events until then. Take care when filling in the columns, and double-check that the information is accurate. Also remember to include the information on who is organising the event.

The table can be found at http://bit.ly/ayycalendar2019.

Questions and comments can be sent to AYY’s Communications Specialist Henna Palonen (henna.palonen@ayy.fi or 050 5209440).

3. Share your wishes for the Polyteekkari Museum’s new permanent exhibition

The renovation of the Polyteekkari Museum’s cellar spaces will be finalised in the summer. The Museum will hopefully be able to move back home before the autumn term. So that the Museum can once again be the display window of the whole community, we would like to hear what you would like to see as part of the permanent exhibition. So, please go and answer some questions with a few choice words at http://bit.ly/näyttelyuudistus.

Up-to-date information on the renovations, invitations to communal work efforts and the opening as well as other juicy details will be published regularlyish on our social media channels as well, so follow the Polyteekkari Museum on Instagram and Facebook!

AYY ANNOUNCES

1. AYY’s Representative Council election kick-off on 22 May 2019

AYY’s Representative Council election takes place in autumn 2019. The Council consists of 45 members and acts as the Student Union’s highest decision-making body.

So that the elections would not come as a surprise, AYY is offering eager groups, election coordinators and candidates an election kick-off! The kick-off is held on 22 May at Avain Sauna (Otaranta 8E, top floor) at 6.00–8.00 pm.  By attending the kick-off, you and your group will be best equipped to prepare for the autumn’s election and for reaching both candidates and voters! There will also be some snacks on offer and a sauna opportunity after the event’s official part. The event’s language will be decided based on the attendees’ language skills, but each participant can use the language they feel most comfortable with.

Whether you are a first-timer interested in the Representative Council or a veteran member of many years, come along to kick off preparations for what is possibly the most important effort of the election super year!

Hitchball 4000 is a weekend-long adventure during which teams of two people hitchhike through selected checkpoints to a secret destination, where they will all spend the night together. A GPS tracking system allows fellow competitors, friends, worried relatives and random drivers to follow the race and the progress of their favourite team in real time. Winners will have their names engraved on the Hitchball 4000 Cup, and the team with the best vibes will receive the Spirit of Hitchball award.

The goal of the competition is to spread the joys of hitchhiking and to break societal bubbles. Sharing kilometres and life stories with strangers opens up an opportunity to learn more about others as well as yourself. So, find yourself a teammate and take a leap of faith to the next level! Register for the most exciting road trip of your summer before 31 May!

“Hitchhiking as an experience is one of a kind. Our eyes were opened, the faith in humankind was restored and our goal was reached by being totally at the mercy of strangers, and the resulting feeling is, as said by so many others after the experience, awesome”.

AYY ANNOUNCES

ATTENTION! Thieves on campus

In case of a possible theft, report the incident to the police. Thieves generally visit multiple places around the campus, so it would be important to report any thefts also to the University’s Head of Security for her to be aware of the situation as a whole. The Head of Security Seija Piiponniemi-Lahti can be reached by email at seija.piiponniemi-lahti@aalto.fi or by phone at +358 500 813 084.

Wishing everyone a safe Wappu season! Let’s take care of each other and our belongings.
