1. AYY’s anniversary workshop, Wed, 25 May, 5pm @ Smökki

The brand new anniversary committee of the Student Union provides an opportunity for AYY’s members and employees to influence the concept of 2-year anniversary organised in February next year. The workshop programme includes discussion on anniversary ideas and the motivation for organising the event as well as relaxed brainstorming with inspiring and new ideas. The workshop will be organised at Servin mökki in Otaniemi, right next to the final bus stop of the bus 102.

2. Aalto University’s Noppa – Course Portal will be launched in June

Aalto University’s Noppa – Course Portal will be launched on 13th of June at http://noppa.aalto.fi.

Noppa is a portal for course webpages and it is a easy-to-use tool for students and teachers for everyday work on courses. On course webpages course staff can publish e.g. a course overview, course timetables, teaching materials, news to students and course results.

Noppa for students:.

  • You can easily find all the course descriptions and practical issues concerning courses from one place (courses and course descriptions for the academic year 2011-2012 will be updated to Noppa on 1st of August 2011)
  • Own personalized homepage where you can see all the couse news and important events with one glance
  • You can follow course news in a way best suited for you (from Noppa, with email or with RSS-feed).
  • You can see your exam results easily from Noppa

3. Students’ Baseball Championships 2011

OtaKoppi will organise students’ baseball championships in Espoo on 17-18 Sept 2011. All students at polytechnics and universities may participate in the event. The event gathers a large number of like-minded students interested in baseball and sports in general!

There are two championships series, a relaxed and a competition series. You can sign up to the series which corresponds with the level of your team. In the competition series, teams compete for official medals according to men’s rules. In the relaxed series, teams will play in the women’s field and teams must include at least 3 women. Each team plays at least 3 games or possibly more, depending on the number of rival teams.

So gather your team and sign up by 21 Aug. A cheaper pre-registration will end on 31 May!

4. Career planning guidance on all campuses

Did you know that personal career planning guidance is offered on all campuses? In June, there are plenty of appointments available. If you are a degree or a doctoral student and ponder your career directions or opportunities, come and talk about your wishes and analyse your goals. Cooperation may result in career ideas reaching far in the future or decisions on your path in the working life in the near future.

5. Scholarships for studies in Greece and Malaysia

Students have the opportunity to apply for scholarships to study in Greece. The application deadline is 31 May 2011. Further information on the scholarships is available here. Application forms are available here.

The Malaysian government also offers international students the opportunity to apply for scholarships for graduate and postgraduate studies for Malaysian universities for the academic year 2011-2012. Applicants’ academic performance is taken into account and the most promising students are called for an interview before deciding on the granting of scholarships. Students can apply for the scholarship via the Malaysian Ministry of Education. The application deadline is 15 June 2011.
