Further information for Aalto University students by Heidi Heiskanen (firstname.lastname@ayy.fi).

3. AYY and Costo to cooperate?

AYY and Costo are planning cooperation which aims to strengthen the students’ interdisciplinary communality through the University and/or Student Union-wide coherent product/collection. For this purpose, we want to survey our members to get feedback on whether such cooperation is interesting – and, above all, what kind of products Aalto students are interested in!

It takes approximately 2-3 minutes to complete the survey which is available at https://lomake.ayy.fi/yrityssuhteet/ayy-costo-partnership/

Please fill out the survey and tell your friends about it!

4. Café Lingua

In CafĂ© Lingua, people interested in a certain language will gather around the same table to talk in that language with native speakers. For example, native Spanish speakers and students interested in Spanish can gather together. When you arrive to the cafĂ©, find the table of your interest or start a new one by writing the name of the language you want to practice or help with on a paper you’ll receive from the international section representative present there.

May you be a student of a language or a native speaker of it wishing to meet people interested in your culture, come to CafĂ© Lingua and you’ll find new friends. Perhaps you’ll even find a “tandem partner”, a person who is interested in your language and whose language you are interested in. You can make an agreement to keep on meeting and helping each other to learn.

Any language can be presented in CafĂ© Lingua. If it would happen that some table wouldn’t form, you can always join a bigger group, like that of English.

  • Tue, 20 March 2012 5pm Keltsu (Cantina), Otaniemi
  • Tue, 27 March 2012 5pm Restaurant Nolla (KY building), Helsinki
  • Tue 3 April 2012 4pm Restaurant Kipsari, Arabia, Helsinki

Be there and we guarantee your touch to the cultures around you will get deeper!

7. Is the university student’s PISA test possible? Check your email.

Approximately 200 Aalto University students of engineering have been randomly picked to participate in AHELO (Assessment of Higher Education Learning Outcomes) of OECD in April. AHELO evaluates whether it is possible to internationally measure higher education students’ knowledge and skills. 17 countries will participate in the research and Aalto University is one of the thirteen schools that have been selected to this project in Finland. The aim is to develop the measurement method for skills, which would take into account the diversity of higher education systems with their language and cultural differences, and which would be technically and financially reasonable to implement.

Tests are carried out at Aalto University in groups of about 20 people in the morning and afternoon on 16-19 April and those invited to the test may choose the most suitable time for themselves. Those who are chosen for the test will receive a notification e-mail in the near future.
