P.S. Advance voting in the parliamentary elections is ongoing today Tuesday, 14 Apr. You can vote in advance at any advance polling station. You only need a photo ID. On the actual voting day on Sunday, 19 Apr, you can only vote at the polling station stated for you.

2. Apply for an AYY scholarship by 19.4.!

AYY distributes community, study and exchange scholarships to its members in the spring. The purpose of the scholarships is to support community activities and encourage the successful combination of studies and student life and internationalisation of students. The application period is from 12pm, 16th March 2015 to 11.59pm, 19th April 2015.

A huge number of events are organised in Aalto community during the weeks before May Day. By following the site wappu.fi you know what is happening! This year’s main event takes place at Kauppatori Square on May Day Eve when it is AYY’s turn to press the student cap on Havis Amanda statue.

AYY declares open the traditional #AaltoWappu contest, the purpose of which is to share positive May Day photos and updates on social media. So publish your photo or update with the hashtag #AaltoWappu on instagram and/or twitter and participate in the contest. The contest is open between 00:01am, Mon, 13 Apr 2015 – 11.59pm on 1 May 2015. The best May Day photos and updates are rewarded with AYY’s hoodies and t-shirts. You can also participate in the contest by sending your photo by email to tiedottaja@ayy.fi.

4. AYY is looking for social policy specialist

AYY is looking for a social policy specialist for fixed-term employment starting on 4 May 2015 or as agreed.

The specialist engages in the student union’s advocacy work in the social policy sector as well as the campus and municipality sector. In addition, the student union has two specialists, one of whom focuses on academic affairs and the other one focuses on academic affairs and social policy. The job description includes, for example, issues related to students’ health and well-being as well as advocacy work on municipalities and zoning. The position also includes equality and gender equality affairs. Finnish skills are required in the position.

5. Engineering student – introduce Otaniemi to business students

When business bachelor students arrive in Otaniemi in the autumn, we need a reception committee to welcome them. We are now looking for active and positive engineering students who are ready to take care of business students in the autumn. So if you have the time and motivation to help business students to get to know Otaniemi in the autumn of 2015, please sign up through the following form (https://lomake.ayy.fi/sosiaalipolitiikka/ilmoittaudu-kummiksi-auta-ekonomia-niemessa/). We will get in touch with those who sign up during the summer and they will guide freshmen, 2nd or 3rd year business students in August-September 2015.

6. Come and have coffee at Cafe Ääni

Aalto Greens have opened a pop up election café at Otaniemi shopping centre. Cafe Ääni provides coffee daily on 11.30am-1pm. The café is open during this week.

7. ÄPY training session for sellers 14 Apr and GALA 2015 on 22 Apr

Äpy organises a training session for sellers at Startup Sauna (Betonimiehenkuja 3) on Tuesday, 14 Apr 2015 at 6pm. Come and see how professionals sell the magazine. Due to our great tips, you can enjoy the selling of Äpy and you will make profit! In addition to great company, we provide food and drinks. If you have not signed the deal yet, you can do it at the spot and get some great advice.

Äpy 2015 will be published at Äpy gala on Wednesday, 22 Apr 2015! Come to Hall A at Otakaari 1 on Wednesday, 22 Apr! Before the gala, there is an exclusive cocktail event for Äpy sellers starting at 5pm in front of Hall A and the most anticipated show of May Day will start at 6pm.

8. Aalto in the Game – Recruitment and Networking Event

Aalto in the Game is a recruiting event for students, alumni and young experts fascinated by the game industry. It will take part in two venues:

9. A few tickets left for Teekkarispex performances

Final tickets for Teekkarispex performances on 20-21 Apr are running out, so act fast if you want to see the spectacle of this spring. Ticket sales for each performance will end on the day of the performance but the rest of the tickets are sold at the theatre entrance starting one hour before the performance. Welcome!

11. Students’ event day at Ateneum on 15 Apr

Students can enjoy culture at Ateneum on Wednesday, 15 Apr, when they have a free admission throughout the day. The Art for Us! event is now organised for the tenth time and this time the event is greater than ever. So come and see what Helsinki looked like fifty years ago and enjoy the urban culture and music of today.

12. Join the urban survival day 

HSY climate info and its partners organise an event which tells about extreme weather phenomena, climate change, the consequences and how to get prepared. Come to the urban survival day on 22 Apr, 12noon-6pm at Lasipalatsi Square to experience storm, wind and heat – and hear how you can get prepared!
