2.    Submit your events for AYY’s academic year calendar 2016-2017

Associations and actors within AYY have the opportunity to submit important event dates for the student union’s academic year calendar. Events can be submitted through the google docs file linked below until Sunday, 29 May 2016. Please add your events under the correct month in chronological order. Please enter the text you want in the calendar ”Event name/Text” field (yellow background). Please note that one line can hold up the maximum of 25 characters of text, including spaces. When writing the text, please consider how many lines from your own calendar you wish to be ”wasted”. The calendar is trilingual so please take this into account when planning the text.

If there are several events marked on the same date, the event that concerns most of the students will end up in the calendar. The file is editable until the provided deadline 29 May 2016, until which you can make changes to your events. Please fill out the columns carefully, and check and double check that the information is correct. Please also remember to include information on who is organising the event.

3.    Teekkari Village cleaning bee on 4.5. from 4 p.m.

Let’s make Otaniemi clean and fresh again on Wed 4.5. at 4 PM. Join the work party with your friend and gather the ugly trash from our living surroundings! The Campus Section provides the cleaning equipment, rakes and gloves and whatnot. The cleaning will start on Smökki courtyard’s wooden terrace (Jämeräntaival 4) and nearby trash containers. Sauna will be warm for the participants in Gorsu at 7pm., where also free food and drinks will be served!

4.    The anniversary week is coming – sign up for the AaltoVision sitsit, the annual ball afterparty or brunch

In the anniversary week of the AYY, the whole community is preparing for an Aalto-like Eurovision atmosphere. In this dinner ball, (a.k.a. sitsit), there is unprecedented entertainment and a fitting programme in store, and of course the best company – you don’t want to miss this! So get your own Aalto Eurovision team together and come to make new friends at Smökki on Wednesday, 11.5. at 6 pm. The evening costs €17/person. Sign up at http://lomake.ayy.fi/aava/aaltovision-registration/

5.    Flower Day 13.5. – The picnic, message and afterparty

On the Friday of the anniversary week of the AYY, 13.5, from 3 pm to 6 pm the Otaranta park area will burst into its full splendour when the students of the Student Union gather on the seashore lawn to salute the traditional day of celebration of students and the birthday of the Teekkarivillage with a relaxed picnic.

In the afternoon, there is also one of Otaniemi’s more obscure student traditions: a canoe is launched, with which the representatives of the Student Union paddle to take the message of the Flower Day to a person who is important to the students. Come and follow the live stream with commentary and see who the message will be given to this year!

From the Flower Day picnic, it’s good to move to the Rantasauna, where a grand evening party is being held! The sauna will be dressed up as a gorgeous party space, where you can find both a steamy jazz cavern and a lively dancefloor, as well as the hot sauna side. The event on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1706797619607685/

7.    Humans vs. Zombies 4.5.-7.5.

The signup can be found at: tinyurl.com/hvzilmo

Facebook-event at: tinyurl.com/hvz2016

Disease is spreading!

A mysterious new pandemic is spreading fast. Rumour has it the infected become hell-bent on spreading the disease. Otaniemi has closed it’s railroads and airports to stop the spread of the virus, but will that be enough?

Humans vs. Zombies is a moderated game of tag where zombie players try to spread the infection by tagging human players. Humans can in turn protect themselves by hiding, fleeing or fighting back (using clean socks or foam gun darts to “”stun”” zombies). Exciting missions and quests will be available every day. The game is fun and interactive. Since teamwork is often the best strategy players are guaranteed to meet new people.

So join the fun! Spread the hype! Come help make a great game by being a great player. And the best part: Participation is completely free of charge. The organizers will provide the game scarf and ID-tag for you. All you have to do is sign up, show up and play.

12.                  Hitchball 4000 hitchhiking competition June 10-12

Hitchball 4000 is a weekend-long adventure during which teams of two people hitchhike across Finland and the Baltics and complete fun challenges along the way. A GPS tracking system allows fellow competitors, friends, worried relatives and random drivers to follow the race and the progress of their favorite team in real time.

The winner is the team that with a cunning tactic hitchhikes the longest way possible and the farthest possible from Helsinki during the weekend, and gets back in time as well. The winning team will get to decorate their home with the Hitchball 4000 Cup – to which its name will be engraved – for one year. In addition to the main prize, one team will be awarded with the Spirit of Hitchball award, with separate criteria.

Find yourself a team mate of the opposite gender and take a leap of faith to the next level! The most exciting and eye-opening weekend or your summer is gonna be on June 10th-12th and registration is open through http://www.hitchball4000.fi/registration/ . There is room for only 45 teams, so be quick! When registering you have to provide the name of the Tumblr account you will use to send pictures and stories during your journey.
