1. AYY’s new apartments in Jätkäsaari – Applications are open now!

The Atlantinkatu building will be complete with 122 apartments, most of which are one room apartments. The construction will be finished in August and the apartments will be ready for moving in on the 1st of September 2017.

The Jätkäsaari building is not only a new development target, but due to its location it’s a totally new type of building for AYY. Because of this, the application process for these apartments has been revised. The queue spots will be drawn by lot between the applications sent during the allocated time. The lots will be drawn between point groups. After May, the applications for the building will continue according to the normal queue system.

As stated by the AYY Board, all AYY members are being given an equal opportunity to apply for the Jätkäsaari apartments, so all applicants will receive the point for location regardless of their study campus. In addition, the application process will be using a lottery system to guarantee equality between all applicants.

Read more about the point system for the Jätkäsaari apartment applications from this link:

5. Preparations for the Representative Council Elections begin!

Are you planning on being a candidate in the upcoming Representative Council elections this fall? Planning on building a new electoral alliance or joining an established one? AYY offers electoral alliances support and resources already during the spring in anticipation of the elections. We ask you to name a campaign manager to act as a contact person, and to send us their contact info to ayye-pjt@list.ayy.fi.

Alliances will receive, in addition to mental support for preparing for the elections, their own page on the AYY Representative Council elections webpages, support to formulate an election plan and an opportunity to order posters and other campaign material with AYY paying for them, according to the budget allocated to it. The details of the offered services will be discussed with the campaign managers, who can affect the outcome.

Deadlines will mainly be set together. Contact us, we’d be happy to give more info!

6. AYY is Searching for a Maintenance Worker

AYY has facilities for single-rent purposes, especially in Otaniemi, like saunas and clubrooms, which require regular maintenance due to their frequent use. AYY is now hiring a maintenance worker, who will primarily take care that the facilities are well maintained. The tasks include maintenance checks for AYY facilities, stocking up on supplies, ordering maintenance and cleaning services and key wardenship.

The job is permanent and full-time, and does not include on-call duty. Work starts as soon as a suitable person is found. The person chosen for the task can apply for apartments under the Student Union’s control.

Find out more and apply by April 20th!

12. Wappu Exchange on Sunday, the 23rd of April 2017

Wappu is coming once again. The traditional events, Wappu sitsit and all that stuff, all that jam, but ah, it’s always the same. The feeling that some change, maybe even an exchangeship, would freshen you up, is familiar to both freshmen and seniors alike.

If this sounds familiar, then the Wappu exchange might be the thing for you! Why be content with the Otaniemi Wappu, when you can see how it’s done elsewhere? So, join our exchange to see the Tampere Teekkariwappu on Sunday, the 23rd of April!

The merry bus ride to Hervanta leaves from Otaniemi at 11:00. At Hervanta, there will be a Wappuradio LIVE concert on the front lawn of TTY and the Academic Beer Pong World Championships at Bommari, with afterparties. You need not figure out a place to stay, though, since you can hop back on the bus and be safe and sound back at Otaniemi by 03:00 AM, with the bus leaving at 01:00 AM from Tampere.

Please note that you can sign up for the Beer Pong Tournament separately as the signup opens at 12:00 on the 17th of April, but participating in the Wappu Exchange does not automatically get you signed up for the tournament!

The price for the entire exchange is 10€ per person, with the bus trip from Otaniemi to Hervanta and back. The 50 spots go to the fastest signups, which opens on Tuesday, the 4th of April at 13:00 at https://lomake.ayy.fi/teekkarijaosto/wappuvaihto/.

A team can fit four players, and gender, stage-of-teekkarihat-raggedness or the color of your overalls hold no stake in this competition. The winners of the tournament will be richly rewarded with awards that will be announced later!
