1. Aalto Day One 2017–2018: Opening of the academic year

Friday, 8th of September 2017

Come and celebrate the start of the academic year with the Aalto community! Aalto Day One 2017–2018 is a three-part event where Aalto people from students to professors celebrate the start of the academic year together.

The day starts with the opening ceremony at Dipoli (Otakaari 24) at 13:00. The jewel of modern Finnish architecture has been restored to its former glory and transformed into the main building of the Aalto University. We welcome you to visit the new Dipoli with the whole Aalto community. After the ceremony, Dipoli’s doors are open to all starting from 14:30.

Aalto Day One 2017–2018 culminates when the traditional Aalto Party with its amazing program starts at 16:00 at the Alvari Square.

Find out more and sign up starting from the 22nd of August 2017 at 13:00 at avajaiset.ayy.fi

The party will be off the roof as the boldest and most beautiful human beings light up the dance floor. After Akystic and the DJ duo Paska Hyppönen and Olli Kikkeli have warmed up the party, the amazing CASCADA (GER) will make sure that the crowd will be launched all the way to the other end of the Milky Way!

3. How should the Klondyke hall be used?

Is there still some place in Otaniemi that the Aalto students are missing? Do we need more craft rooms, seminar halls or maybe an opportunity to compete in Crash Team Racing after lunch?

The Aalto University Student Union AYY has been given permission to design activities that its members would like to see in Dipoli’s Klondyke hall. We want your opinions and ideas on what the space should be like!

You can find the questionnaire here: https://lomake.ayy.fi/viestinta/klondyke/

4. Preparation for the Representative Council elections has started!

Have you thought about running as candidate in the upcoming Representative Council elections? Are you planning on setting up your own electoral alliance? The chair of the Representative Council provides support and sparring to help you prepare for the elections. In addition to mental support, AYY also provides marketing material for your Representative Counsel electoral alliance. The first set of materials has already been ordered, so we will have the roll-ups and posters ready for the start of the autumn. If you are interested, please contact us immediately and we will give you more detailed instructions. Contact: ayye-pjt@list.ayy.fi.

Many electoral alliances have already joined the action! You can check the currently involved electoral alliances at: /vaalit/electoral-alliances/?lang=en

6. HCC is back!

The traditional party of the Guild of Materials and Metallurgy Students, Hard Cock Café, will make a flashy return to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the guild. Rumour has it that the roots of HCC are in Smökki, where refreshments were enjoyed around an enormous wooden “rooster”.

This time around the theme is classier, as you are invited to arrive wearing black and white, ready to party like there’s no tomorrow! So make your way to Bar Loose in the eastern harbour city on Friday, September 15th. The party gets started at 20:00.

Get your tickets from https://www.ticted.com/fi/events/4171, or buy one at the Guild’s tent at Aalto Party on September 8th!

Jukka Linkola’s Loitsut (Spells) suite, composed for the KYN female choir, is transformed into a stage performance combining music, movement, light and image under the direction of Janne Marja-aho. Panu Savolainen’s vibraphone colors the work, which was originally composed a cappella. Mika Venhovaara’s lights and VJ Hellstone’s live visuals bring the rich world of spells to the rugged Kattilahalli.

The choir is led by Kaija Viitasalo.
