1. AYY’s Board and Chairs of the Representative Council 2019: now is the time to apply!

Do you want to get straight into the heart of the Student Union to work for the good of the Aalto community? Apply to the AYY Board for 2019! As a Board member, you get to be part of AYY’s amazing work community that works towards a common goal, get to know student union operators all around Finland and keep developing yourself with each new project.

Another excellent option is to apply to the Chairs of AYY’s Representative Council, which is the Student Union’s highest decision-making body. The Council decides upon AYY’s operational plan, budget and result, for example, and appoints the Board for the Student Union.

2. Apply for AYY’s exchange grant!

In the autumn, AYY is handing out exchange grants to support the internationalisation and active community operation of students. Any AYY member who is going on an exchange, is on an exchange at the moment or has returned from an exchange after April 2018 can apply for an exchange grant. The grant is meant for the degree students of Aalto University.

The grant can be applied for from 12 noon on 24 Oct until 11.59 pm on 14 Nov.

3. TalentIT 2018 recruitment fair on 1 Nov

Looking for career opportunities? Need a boost in your job hunting? Come network at the TalentIT 2018 recruitment and career fair in Otahalli (Otaranta 6) on Thursday 1 Nov 2018 at 11 am–5 pm.

TalentIT is Finland’s largest ICT recruitment and career fair. At this years’ fair, there will be a wide range of interesting employers from innovative startups to big international players. A new feature is the interdisciplinary TalentX area containing measurement of problem-solving skills and testing of work-related competence in interviews. These activity stands serve as a route to actual job interviews, for example.

In addition, the TalentIT Career Forum (https://fairs.aalto.fi/talentit/en/vieraalle/career-forum/) provides Aalto students with multiple job search services from editing their CV and LinkedIn profile to interview coaching and tips for making a video CV. Students can also book private meetings with interesting exhibitors in the Snap Meeting Corner through the Brella service.

4. November’s theatre offer: Musical Musta Saara (Black Sara)

The carnivalistic, impressive and eventful Musta Saara is the phenomenon of the theatre autumn 2018!

The Union has promised the money for building new, modern apartments in Transylvania for the Romanian Romani. Meanwhile in Paris, the Poison-Pens – father and daughter – are fighting over the National Party leadership. The events of Musta Saara take place in the modern day, yet the carnivalesque performance also features some historic events and persons. Music and song blare out.

5. KYN and UMO: Kaipaan (Longing) // 1–2 Nov 2018

For their concerts in early November, UMO and KYN have put together a programme featuring music befitting the All Saints’ Day atmosphere. Listeners will be tuned in to remembrance and longing by the arrangements commissioned for this concert of pieces like Aamulla varhain and Sinua, sinua rakastan.

UMO is an orchestra operating professionally in the field of jazz and rhythm music, whose 16-person assembly plays nearly a hundred concerts each year around Finland. The female choir KYN is an ambitious reformer of choir music. Helsingin Sanomat has named KYN as one of the brightest stars of the choir sky and a frontrunner of jazz music.

The orchestra is conducted by Kirmo Lintinen, the choir by Music Councillor Kaija Viitasalo.

7. Polku’s Beer Course on 14 November at 7 pm at Ossin Kulma

On Polku’s beer course, we acquaint ourselves with the history of beer, different beer styles, production methods and the art of enjoying beer. After short lectures on these topics, we taste some typical representatives of common beer styles. The price of the event is €20, which includes the course materials and the tasting. 10. BEST Winter courses’ application DL 24 Oct

This winter, BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) offers you three courses around Europe. On these, you’ll get to attend lectures, given by the university’s teaching staff or experts from companies, on Technology, Career Related Skills, and Applied Engineering. After the lectures, you’ll also take part in evening activities designed for you to give you a taste of the LBG (Local BEST Group) that hosts you and the local culture.
