AYY ANNOUNCES

1. What is the Aalto University of your dreams like? Aalto Strategy @AYY

Strategy work is ongoing at Aalto, and the entire Aalto community is invited to join the influencing! In March, AYY is organising two strategy events aimed especially at students:

AYY’s priority in the strategy work is students’ wellbeing and experience, and both events will focus especially on questions related to these. It is us students who are best aware of students’ everyday life, wellbeing and experience, so come along to share your thoughts and ideas!

You can take a look at the materials on the Aalto strategy at www.aalto.fi/3.0 (requires logging in with Aalto user details).

2. Application period extended: Apply to the Student Union’s Central Election Committee for 2019!

AYY’s highest decision-making body, the 45-member Representative Council, will be elected again next autumn. However, the Council election does not organise itself, so we are in need of volunteers.

Would you like to be involved with making AYY’s next Council election more visible, resonating and participatory than ever?

The call for applications to the Central Election Committee operating at the heart of the Council election is open! For example, the Central Election Committee decides upon the polling and advance polling stations’ locations, establishes the Election Committees, reviews the candidacy notices and agreements on electoral alliances and groups, conducts the recount of the votes and oversees the election proceedings in general. A member of the Central Election Committee is not eligible to stand in the Representative Council election 2019.

Applications to the Central Election Committee are submitted via the electronic form at https://lomake.ayy.fi/hallinto/kvl.

The application period has been extended until Sunday 17 Mar 2019 at 11.59 pm.

Further information: Administrative and HR Manager Johanna Pietiläinen (johanna.pietilainen (a) ayy.fi), +358 50 520 9434.

3. Answer the brand survey for AYY’s sections

The AYY sections are charting the images held by our community of the sections’ brands. If you want to take part in influencing the sections’ brand development work, let your thoughts be known via the attached survey form. Your answers carry particular weight, as they will help further improve the sections’ brands. The questionnaire closes Sunday 24th of March.

Among all respondents, we will raffle VIP and drinks tickets for the Dipoli Wappu or Aalto Afterparty.

You can access the survey here:

4. AYY is looking for a designer and maker for the Master of Ceremonies’ staff

The Master of Ceremonies’ staff is used at the annual balls and possibly at other ceremonious events of associations or, in the case of AYY, the Student Union. The Master of Ceremonies’ staff is usually around two metres long and has a logo, emblem or other symbol representing the association at its head. The staff usually has a base, which can be either decorative or simple. AYY wants a staff that represents our community. This being the case, we are looking for a designer and maker for our staff! This staff will be used by our Student Union most likely for decades to come at all more ceremonious events, and it will act as an important and valuable symbol of AYY. A reward will be settled upon with the maker.

Submit your design by 24 Mar and leave your handprint in AYY’s history. Read more at /en/blog/2019/02/28/ayy-is-looking-for-a-designer-and-maker-for-the-master-of-ceremonies-staff/.

All questions and requests for further information will be answered by Marianne Honkasaari (marianne.honkasaari@ayy.fi, 0409645608).

5. AYY takes part in Ilmastoveivi – Sign the petition and accept the Guild of Architecture’ veggie week challenge

Finland will hold the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2019 from July to December. The goal of the Ilmastoveivi2019 campaign is for Finland, with the support of its people, to make use of the opportunities of its EU presidency period and to firmly promote limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees. In order to achieve this goal, Ilmastoveivi2019 is looking to collect 500,000 signatures for our petition, which will be handed over to the new Prime Minister of Finland in the spring of 2019.

Read more and sign the petition: https://www.ilmastoveivi2019.fi.

P.S. Also accept the Guild of Architecture’s Ilmastoveivi challenge encouraging you to eat vegetarian food for (at least) this week: /blog/events/ilmastoveivihaaste-vegeviikko-11 (in Finnish).

6. Jämeräntaival 3 B will complete its renovations in May 2019 – application for the apartments open on 11–24 Mar 2019!

The renovations at Jämeräntaival 3 B are soon completed, and the apartments will be ready for moving in on 2 May 2019. The majority of the completed apartments are single rooms in shared apartments. During the renovations, all surface materials and fixed furnishings in the apartments have been renewed. All AYY members with a right of residence can apply for the apartments. The apartments are applied for in the Domo system, and applications received between 11 Mar and 24 Mar 2019 will be included in the lottery. The apartments will be offered from 25 Mar 2019 onwards. Once all apartments have been offered, the lottery order is dissolved and the applications are placed in a queue based on their scoring and submission date.
