Weekly Newsletter 17/2019

Application for AYY’s scholarships is still open until tomorrow, Wednesday 24 Apr at 11.59 pm. Read more and apply NOW at /en/students/services/scholarships/.

Have you already heard about the Wappupotti appeal opened by the Freshman Committee that has already collected 14 000 euros for mental health services? The purpose of the appeal is to evoke discussion and to shatter the taboo surrounding mental health issues – and, of course, to support the important work of the Finnish Association for Mental Health. Make a donation at wappu.fi/mielelle (in Finnish)! The goal is to double the amount collected by the Aalto community on Wappu eve at Manta.

You can find a list of all Wappu events of the Aalto community at www.wappu.fi (in Finnish).

All Wappu citizens of the Aalto community are welcome to the Parade. The party crowd should note that most likely, the Parade will also be joined by a reporter from MTV who transmits the First-of-May atmosphere to the national MTV Live channel.

2. Nice roomie contest

Has your roomie nursed you with zinc and vitamin C when you’ve been struck down by the flu? Helped you move? Baked you cookies for your B-day? Something else? Expose a nice roommate deed to the Campus Section! The deed can be anything at all, as long as it has brought joy to the other roommates. If you were the one to make everyone merry, you can also expose your own deed. Deeds are exposed here: https://lomake.ayy.fi/kampusjaosto/kiva-kamppisteko-kilpailu/.

The rewards for nice roommate acts will be handed out at the Wappurieha declaration on 30 April. This means there is still ample time to do nice things for your roommates! The deadline for contest submissions is Fri 26 April 2019. All AYY apartments and HOAS apartments in Otaniemi can take part in the contest. Whether you live in a friend, family or shared flat, it is time to do something nice for your roommates!

3. Support Your Local Brits!

Britain is in the midst of turmoil, not having managed to work out a Brexit agreement. This has caused some worry and concern amongst our British students. With this card campaign, you can show them your support!

Send the local Brits your best wishes via the attached form and show that we do not leave anyone alone. Cards will be printed from the messages and hung on display in VĂ€re. https://lomake.ayy.fi/vaikuttaminen/support-your-local-brits/

4. Dipoli Wappu on 30 Apr – Come party and/or apply to volunteer

The most expected Wappu party is back again! Speed like a supernova to Dipoli on 30 Apr to shake your tail feather, to charm all listeners with your karaoke classics and to put on your cap together with everyone as midnight strikes. This is a party you really don’t want to miss!

On Wappu eve, the Dipoli roof will be blown off and the party accelerated to the speed of light by the brighter-than-a-supernova ABREU!

Ticket sales have already started at bit.ly/dipolinwappu2019! Ticket sales times, other artists and more detailed info are available on the event’s FB page at https://www.facebook.com/events/318302462214039/ as well as online at ota.wappu.fi.
