The Guild of Architecture is the subject association for students of architecture and landscape architecture, operating within the Student Union of Aalto University. Though the guild was founded already in 1908, it is better known for its creative state of mind rather than long lasting traditions.
Among the tasks of the guild are promoting the students’ interests as well as arranging happenings which vary from parties to excursions and theatre visits. It also maintains a list of its students’ email-addresses which enables smooth communications between members of the guild and the Faculty of Architecture.
How to recognise a student of architecture. During festivities such as Wappu they dress in their white overalls and in other times their clothing consists of black and hipster-elements. Their annual festivity, Wähäjoulu, is held on December 5th.
The guild collaborates with other guilds in Otaniemi, but also with TOKYO and other guilds of architecture in Tampere and Oulu. Together these three guilds publish the Arkkitehtiopiskelija-magazine and arrange meetings during summertime and autumn.
