AYY new Housing Regulations come into force 1 June

AYY’s Representative Council has approved the new AYY Housing Regulations in their meeting on 14.5.2013. The Housing Regulation guides all AYY housing services and will affect all members applying for apartments from AYY or living in AYY apartments already.

The new regulations will come into force on 1 June 2013. They will therefore influence how first year students can apply and get apartments during the coming fall. AYY.fi webpages will be updated shortly to accommodate the new regulations.

How do the new regulations come into force?

All old applications will retain their old points in the housing queues. Applications made after 1 June will be scored according to the new regulations. The housing queues will therefore have both new and old applications at the same time for a while. For most queues the point regulations have actually stayed effectively same.

The new regulations will come into force 1 June. The most benefical reading for the tenant of either the new or old regulations will always be used for contracts signed before this date.

The new regulations will apply in entirety to all contracts signed after 1 June.

The queue for furnished apartments will be created later during the fall. At this moment it is not possible to apply for furnished apartments, because the first time any furnished apartments will be vacant next is in January 2014.

 

Major changes in the regulations

  • If you accept a housing offer, all your applications will be removed from all the housing queues
    • But you can return two applications back to their old places in the queues, by informing the Housing Office no later than one month after acceping the housing offer
      • When an application made before 1.6. is returned to the queue, the points will be calculated again. Therefore the position of the application in the queue may change.
    • You can also now reject a housing offer without losing any other applications
  • Family and friend agreements made more equivalent
    • If a tenant leaves from from a family or friend apartment, AYY will now terminate the lease according to Finnish act on residential leases (3/6 month notice period)
    • Earlier friend agreements could be terminated by single tenant with 1 month notice period
  • Everyone can now apply to Teekkari Village studio apartments without restrictions
  • Urgent need of accommodation points are no longer granted to any other queues, than shared apartment queues
  • Waiting time before changing between AYY apartments
    • When you move into AYY apartment, you can’t change apartment to another same kind of AYY apartment, before first living 6 months in the first apartment
    • When you move into AYY apartment, you can’t change into another AYY apartment at all, before first living 2 months in the first apartment.
  • Postponement of moving date cannot be granted anymore on the basis of impending graduation alone
    • Now you need also some other reasons (move into another country for example) for to be granted a postponement of movement date

Call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University

The Aalto University Student Union has decided on 26 March 2013 to open a supplementary call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University to the joint administrative bodies and the working groups of Aalto University for the year of 2013. Students of Aalto University can apply for the position of the student representative in administration.

The application period will begin on 26 March 2013 and end on 9 April 2013 at 23.59 p.m. by which the applications must be delivered. The application is completed electronically. The electronic application forms are available at the website https://www.halloped.fi/fi . The instructions for applying are available at the recruitment website for the volunteers at Aalto University at /en/student-union/student-advocacy/student-representatives/ .

The Student Union wishes that the applicants also include international degree students as well as representatives of both genders and various schools. The working language in the bodies of University is Finnish unless otherwise stated in the description of the body.

The Board of the Aalto University Student Union will appoint the student representatives to the administration at its meeting on 9 April 2013.

AYY to discontinue sauna and basement storage charges in Helsinki

In some AYY’s properties located in Helsinki, fees have been collected from residents for sauna reservations and basement storage cages. From 1 Jan 2013 onwards, basement storage cases and sauna reservations will be included in the housing rents.

Separate sauna reservations and basement storage case charges will be discontinued mainly due to the burdensome system. The monitoring of the use of saunas and basement storage in Helsinki properties has in practice cost more than what was collected with the charges. At the same time, the practices in all Helsinki properties will be standardised to correspond to one another.

Charges will be removed automatically and this change does not require any measures from the residents. However, from now on all basement storage cases in use must be marked clearly. The name of the resident, the address of the apartment and the current year must be displayed on the door of the basement storage cage. This is to prevent that storage cages slowly fill with extra junk of former residents, for example. If unmarked storage cages are not marked even after a notice, the maintenance company may clear the storage case and dispose of stored items.

The resident council in each property may decide on the arrangements of saunas and the booking of sauna reservations in the building. The housing office can help with the practical arrangements of sauna reservations when requested. Parking space fees will remain unchanged.

The Aalto University Student Union has decided on 2 Nov 2012 to open the call for applications for student representatives in the administration of Aalto University to the joint administrative bodies and the working groups of Aalto University for the year of 2013. Students of Aalto University can apply for the position of the student representative in administration.

The application period will begin on 2 Nov 2012 at 4 p.m. and end on 30 Nov 2012 at 23.59 p.m. by which the applications must be delivered. The application is completed electronically. The electronic application forms are available at the website https://www.halloped.fi/fi . The instructions for applying are available at the recruitment website for the volunteers at Aalto University at /en/student-union/student-advocacy/student-representatives/ .

Information on the names of the applicants is disclosed to the special status associations of the Aalto University Student Union for providing recommendations in the selection of student representatives in the administration of the university represented by the associations.

The Student Union wishes that the applicants also include international degree students as well as representatives of both genders and various schools. The working language in the bodies of University is Finnish unless otherwise stated in the description of the body.

The Student Union organizes training for new representatives of every school on Jan 2013.

The Board of the Aalto University Student Union will appoint the student representatives to the administration at its meeting on 14 Dec 2012.
