What is a crisis? How does the situation for example in Ukraine, Syria or Yemen affect the local and global scene? Media gives us one picture, but we want to find out other views. That’s why, this time in On The Couch we will discuss the hot topic of man-made crisis, and what the role of us – future change makers – could be in those. Could business help to build peace?

On The Couch, organized by Sustainable Business Club (SBC), is an event where opinion leaders and students get together to discuss and debate about critically acclaimed issues. Instead of lecturing, the event is informal and challenges all kinds of opinions and students from different fields of expertise. To give everyone the chance to participate in the discussion, the number of participants is limited to 20. The other events have been successful and gathered together people from all schools of Aalto University as well as from the University of Helsinki.

On The Couch invites Pekka Haavisto, who is besides a politician, also an expert in conflicts and peace building. He has worked for example for UNEP evaluating the environmental consequences of conflicts, worked with the peacebuilding process in Sudan and Darfur, and been the member in the board of many Finnish NGOs.

The event takes place on Thursday 7.5. at 17:30 in Think Helsinki in the city center of Helsinki. Sign up by sending an email to aaltosbc@gmail.com before 29.4 with the headline ”On the couch”. Tell us who you are, what you study and why you want to join. Some pre-material about the topic and more information will be shared in the beginning of May with the 20 participants joining the event.
